PETER DIXIE

British photographer Peter Dixie (b. 1976) is based in Shanghai and produces images that explore landscape, the city and the built environment.

He produces interlinked series of images conveying a sense of the presence, structure and human dimensions of the location. After graduating with a BA in Philosophy (Bristol, 1998) he moved to Japan where between 2003 and 2005 he trained at the professional photo lab DOI Tech Tokyo learning hand printing darkroom technique in both black & white and colour. Following this he returned to the UK where he studied Professional Photography for a further two years at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth (now The Arts University College at Bournemouth). He then relocated to Shanghai to pursue personal projects culminating in the ongoing series上海Hinterland.

In addition, he has given a number of public lectures, in cooperation with KunstLicht Gallery, on themes in contemporary photography as grounded in the historical visual culture.
