In Shanghai I bought, at a secondhand camera market, a completely handmade camera – it leaked light all over the place and was very finicky, but with a few modifictaions and a lot of fiddling I got plenty of use out of it. These pictures were taken on two journeys – one by car the first time I travelled to my wife’s home town, and one by train when we went to register our marriage. They capture my first views of landscapes that would become most familiar over time.
